Verses of Vemana-24
guhalona jochi guruvula vedukanga
kruramuga mokandu tarasilla
muktidari yadiye munduga juutura
viswadhabhirama vinura vema
Commentary: Even in the days of Vemana, the erroneous search for the Guru – the spiritual preceptor – was prevalent. People with no sense of perception of the divine would seek out a guru in the most improbable of places: the mountain or the cave. For, wisdom is better sought from a man of realization than from an inert mountain.
Vemana’s words on this are pregnant with irony. He says that if one searches for the Guru in the caves, he is sure to find a shortcut to moksha: by ending up in the stomach of wild animals.
